Volunteering

What is a Crossroads volunteer?

At Crossroads, volunteers of all ages play a vital role in helping us meet our goals and stay connected to the community we call home. And we offer many opportunities for volunteers to get involved, from planting and harvesting to ground keeping. Don’t have a green thumb? No worries! We can also use an extra set of hands at our farm stand or helping out with our educational and fundraising events.

We make volunteering at Crossroads simple, offering flexible schedules and drop-in hours. We will provide training for all positions. No experience necessary. All you need to bring is a positive attitude and a willingness to learn! Oh, and the right attire!

  • Comfortable, appropriate clothing

  • Sun hats

  • Sturdy shoes

  • Also sunscreen and individual water bottles

A Safe and Healthy Volunteer Experience

At Crossroads, we follow all CDC guidelines for the safety of our customers, workers, and volunteers. We ask that you:

  • Wear a mask and garden gloves

  • Stay six feet apart from workers and fellow volunteers

  • Stay home if you are experiencing any COVID symptoms or have been exposed to someone who has it.

Why Volunteer?

Whether you’re a retiree pursuing new hobbies, a student interested in agriculture or looking to build community hours, or simply someone who wants to work with neighbors in a fun, active and open space, our volunteer program brings residents together with a shared purpose: to better understand, appreciate, and nurture our world!

As a volunteer, you’ll:

  • Learn organic biodynamic growing methods

  • Discover tips on plant care

  • Understand the importance of locally grown foods

  • Meet great, like-minded people

  • Keep the Crossroads Farm mission going and growing!

We’re also in the process of developing special “Get Up and Go” trips to local museums, festivals, and other outings to help strengthen our own, small community right here at Crossroads!

Choose Your Committee

Below is a list of opportunities for getting involved at Crossroads as a volunteer.  We look forward to finding the right committee for you!

Volunteer F.A.Q.

Q. What type of work can I expect to do during the growing season?

A. Lots of harvesting, weeding, field preparation/maintenance (pruning, deadhead flowers, etc.)

Q. What should I bring to the farm?

A. Please wear shoes and clothes you don't mind getting dirty. We recommend dressing in layers, bringing sunscreen,
and bringing a reusable water bottle for staying hydrated.

Q. Does Crossroads accept drop-ins (outside of volunteer sessions)?

A. Stay tuned for our volunteer winter hours & 2022 season.

Due to the seasonal nature of farming, please check back for our seasonal volunteer hours.
Registration will be available on-line. The seasonal volunteer schedule and "call-out" for special projects
will be emailed. We look forward to working and growing with you.

Q. How old do you have to be to attend a volunteer session?

A. We accept volunteers ages 14 and older. For younger children, we host many education programs at the farm.
Click here to check them out or email education@nassaulandtrust.org
