History of Crossroads Farm at Grossmann's
This land was farmed by the Grossmann family for over 100 years. It was a landmark of Long Island agricultural tradition for generations of visitors. When the land was put up for sale, the Nassau Land Trust nominated the property to be purchased by Nassau County through the 2006 Environmental Bond Act. Thanks to the County’s purchase, the farm was saved from development.
Since July of 2010, Crossroads Farm at Grossmann's has benefitted from the experience and dedication of its farmers and staff. With the invaluable help of volunteers, they have worked tirelessly to rejuvenate the soil and restore the buildings and infrastructure. As a result, Crossroads Farm at Grossmann’s has become a thriving, certified organic farm that employs effective biodynamic growing techniques—ensuring the health of both the land and the community. This public farm now has growing volunteer, education, and CSA programs, as well as a farm stand for locally grown produce.
