Fresh from the greenhouse:
For anyone who wants to plant a late summer garden or still has room for a few more plants, we luckily have some supplies left; get them while they're hot! Available for planting, we have thyme, lavender, mint, sage, arugula, shallot, king crimson peppers, fordhook giant swiss chard, black beauty eggplant, chives, oregano, and basil.
We also still have some gorgeous mixed pots of herbs and vegetables left for you to adorn your patio with; they have grown quite nicely!
This week at the farmer's market:
New to the farmer's market this week will be a vendor selling a variety of pickeled items and assorted olives. We will also have our familiar vendors selling homemade hummus and scones, fresh and local honey, jams, and mustards, delicious pound cakes, artisan cheeses, specialty breads, local Long Island craft beer, and of course a variety of fresh produce from Sep's Family Farm and right here at Crossroads Farm.
This week's featured recipe is...
1 cup cooked edamame beans
1/4 cup tahini (sesame paste)
2 Tbsp lemon juice
1 garlic clove, peeled
2 Tbsp olive oil
Salt to taste
To cook edamame, bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add edamame pods, return to a boil. Cook until bright green, 3 to 5 minutes. Drain and let cool in order to remove beans from their pods.
To make the hummus, combine edamame, tahini, lemon juice, and garlic clove in a food processor and mix until smooth. Slowly add olive oil to mixture while processor is running. When fully blended, add salt to taste and serve.
