Field Manager
Location: Crossroads Farm
Compensation: $20–$25 per hour (based on experience)
Schedule: Full-time, Seasonal, March - November

About the Farm:
At Crossroads, we endeavor to provide experiential agricultural education to everyone through the collaborative effort of growing on our 5-acre organic farm. Crossroads is part of the Nassau Land Trust, a not-for-profit organization composed of a volunteer board of directors working together to manage the farm with on-site management. In addition to growing food, Crossroads operates an on-site farm store where all of our produce and farm products are sold directly to the community. The farm is an integral part of the surrounding community and a NYS Historical Business. We are NOFA-NY Organic Certified.

Position Overview:
The Field Manager plays a vital leadership role in the daily agricultural operations of the farm. This position is responsible for ensuring that all fieldwork is executed efficiently, safely, and in alignment with organic standards. The Field Manager leads staff and volunteers in the field, maintains production systems, and supports the farm’s mission of education, sustainability, and community engagement. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring both strong farming knowledge and the ability to guide teams with clarity and purpose.

Required Experience:
-
2+ years in a farm leadership position OR
-
5+ years as part of a field crew on an organic or regenerative farm
-
Tractor operation experience required
-
Experience working with chickens is a plus

Roles & Responsibilities:

Field Leadership

Lead daily field operations including planting, cultivation, harvesting, irrigation, and field maintenance

Supervise farm staff and volunteers to ensure work is completed correctly and efficiently

Provide training and mentorship to crew members and volunteers

Foster a positive, collaborative, and mission-driven work environment

Crop Production

Execute crop plans in coordination with farm leadership

Monitor crop health, soil conditions, and pest pressures
-
Ensure all growing practices align with organic and regenerative standards

Support seasonal planning and implementation

Equipment Operation:

Safely operate tractors and related field equipment

Assist with bed preparation, mowing, material movement, and infrastructure work as needed

Standards & Compliance:

Maintain organic integrity across all field practices

Ensure proper recordkeeping related to field activities

Uphold safety standards and proper tool use in the field
​
Systems & Infrastructure:
-
Oversee irrigation systems and field infrastructure

Maintain cleanliness and organization of growing spaces
-
Assist with compost systems, soil building, and regenerative practices

Support care and coordination of chickens as needed

Farm Store Support:

Coordinate harvests to meet the needs of the on-site farm store

Ensure product quality and consistency for retail availability

Community & Education Support:

Help facilitate volunteer days and educational programming

Serve as a knowledgeable presence for visitors and program participants when needed

Model the farm’s values of stewardship, education, and collaboration
