Job Title: Educator
Reports to: Education Manager

​Crossroads Farm is an Education Center and a 5-acre diversified NOFA certified market organic farm that employs sustainable and some bio-dynamic principals. You will be an active member of the education team, engaging with and educating program participants, volunteers, and farm visitors of all ages. Make a difference working in a nurturing environment intricately connected to the care of the land within a vibrant, growing community. ​

Role and Responsibilities

Lead or co-lead education groups of all ages and abilities. Educate program participants about the farm, its history and mission. Educate participants about local and organic gardening and farming, environmental conservation, wildlife, natural resources, sustainability, and agricultural using hands-on, experiential teaching methods.

Collaborate with the education team to design, implement and teach farm-based, experiential educational programs, using biodynamic techniques when feasible, while promoting environmental stewardship and sustainable practices.

Prepare tools and assist with set-up and break-down of education programs.

Write up program reports using the Google platform.

Work both on and off-site (neighboring schools and hospital garden settings).

Help care for the education fields, gardens and spaces as needed.

Flexible hours that address the shifting demands of the Education programs and the availability of other education team members.

Assist with farm events and activities when available.

Classification: Seasonal, Part-Time, Non- Exempt; September through mid- November.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:
​​​
College student or graduate with education experience and a genuine passion for the outdoors. Flower and vegetable gardening experience in home, school or urban settings required. Candidate must have the ability to communicate clearly and effectively, lead and motivate program participants, think critically and adapt to unexpected situations. Candidate must have a solid work ethic, be able to take direction, work on a team, as well as problem-solve independently. Must be able to work in all weather conditions. Must be able to use a computer for record keeping and use the Farm’s technology platforms to execute responsibilities including Microsoft Outlook/Office and Google. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

Preferred Skills: Outdoor education experience, handyperson skills such as carpentry, and experience with greenhouse growing including plant propagation is a plus. Weekend availability is a plus. Desire to learn organic or sustainable vegetable production, experience is a plus. Valid Driver’s License and a Car preferred.

Compensation: $17 - $22 / hour commensurate with experience.
