Native Plant Initiative

Crossroads Farm is committed to restoring native habitat, supporting pollinators, and increasing biodiversity across our historic five-acre certified organic farm.

In partnership with Dropseed Native Landscapes, we have incorporated native plants throughout the farm through hedgerows, pollinator gardens, and habitat areas. In 2025 alone, approximately 2,500 native plants were added to the property, with additional plantings and pollinator waystations continuing to expand.

Our work has been supported by the Nassau County Soil & Water Conservation District, including grant funding that has helped make conservation projects possible. We also work with the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) to pursue conservation practices and funding that support soil health, water management, biodiversity, and the long-term sustainability of the farm. We continually seek additional local, state, federal, and private grants, as well as grassroots funding and donations from our community, to keep this work growing.

Our partnership with Dropseed goes beyond the farm itself. By providing space for Dropseed to showcase and share native plants, we hope to introduce more Long Islanders to native species and encourage our neighbors to plant them in their own yards and gardens.

Native plants provide critical food and habitat for pollinators, birds, and beneficial insects while improving soil health, managing stormwater, and creating a more resilient ecosystem. As a certified organic farm and community education center, we believe agriculture and conservation should work together.

Our goal is simple: grow native habitat at Crossroads Farm, educate our community, and inspire more people to plant native throughout Nassau County.
